Ever so often, owners of a HP Laserjet or may run into a problem with the print spooler crashing over and over for no apparent reason. Restarting the spooler causes an immediate crash, and the only way to get rid of the problem is by removing sometimes by force all printers. In truth, the problem is caused by newer versions of the HP Host-based printer driver. For some reason, a part of the HP driver crashes upon parsing certain PDF documents usually scanner-generated PDF files , and thus, causes havoc on the printer spooler. Because of the print spooler crash, a lot of programs like MS Office will start to act very erratic.

The best solution I have found is to use these old drivers that do not have zsr. It will still break from time to time, and you will have to go in and strip the drivers out of the registry, but at least in my situation not nearly as often. Your only other option is to buy a printer with an actual print processor in the printer instead of a cheap host based one.

In Adobe Reader, click on "Print I came upon this workaround last year while investigating the issue and this thread while searching for updates. Unfortunately for us though, Citrix will often lose printer settings and thus the print as image setting will be lost occasionally, causing the spooler to crash again. I have found the solution after spending hours trying to address the issue of my printer not working after trying to print a pdf.

The problem falls with Adobe, not the Hp I uninstalled adobe and installed Foxit Reader. There are NO issues now. With that done, you will also need to make sure that you do not create PDF print jobs that the printer may still not work with.

I had tried many different things - this did!! Thanks for the information - kthulasiraman. We'll see if it stays fixed, but thank you so much for giving me access to this helpful hint. Even I could follow these instructions. Didn't find what you were looking for? Ask the community.

Click on Start then control panel, and then Printer and Faxes Right click on the HP Laserjet or other affected printer and select Properties Click on the Advanced tab Uncheck "Enable advanced printing features" Click the OK button With that done, you will also need to make sure that you do not create PDF print jobs that the printer may still not work with. The Printers and Faxes window was empty. When I started the service, the printers appeared again but the service would stop again before I could do anything else. This didn't seem to work, but I can't believe that what I did next was all that was required to solve the problem. Update: Problem did return. I did the unplug the HP 's usb connection trick to make the printers show up, deleted the old driver, and installed a new driver from HP.
