A great stay. Roger Abed, son of the founder greeted me personally. His staff had already arranged a car to meet me at the airport S40 with a semi sane driver by local standards. Great food, room was small but very comfortable and well equipped with a nice outside area to ralx, you don't spend much time there anyway.

Jbeil Byblos is a beautiful place, albeit quite touristy. You can spend a short day there, but there is enough to see in town and in the area to stay overnight. I highly recommend the Armenian Genocide Museum. The souks are overrated- souvenirshops and bars instead of traditional products. The restaurants are overpriced but the food was okay. The wax museum was not worth the entrance fee. It could do with lots of extra info on the displays.

The Jbeil market! - Old Souk
Byblos appears as Kebny in Egyptian hieroglyphic records going back to the 4th-dynasty pharaoh Sneferu fl. The name thus seems to have meant the "Well of the God" or "Source of the God". When the Arabic form of the name is used, it is typically rendered '''Jbeil''', '''Jbail''', or '''Jbayl''' in English. All of these, along with Byblos, are etymologically related. During the Crusades , this name appeared in European records as "Gibelet" and "Giblet". This name was used for Byblos Castle and its associated lordship. It is attractive to archaeologists because of the successive layers of debris resulting from centuries of human habitation.
The ruins of many successive civilizations are found at Byblos, one of the oldest Phoenician cities. Inhabited since Neolithic times, it has been closely linked to the legends and history of the Mediterranean region for thousands of years. Byblos is also directly associated with the history and diffusion of the Phoenician alphabet. De kustplaats Byblos ligt op een klif van zandsteen zo'n 40 kilometer ten noorden van Beiroet.
